About Shooting Star Children’s Hospices

We provide specialist care and support to families who have a baby, child or young person with a life-limiting condition, or who have been bereaved. Rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission, we support families across Surrey, north‑west London and south‑west London from diagnosis to end of life and throughout bereavement with a range of nursing, practical, emotional and medical care. Our staff’s exceptional commitment ensures every family can make every moment count.

About the role

You will be a professional role model, leading and coordinating the in‑hospice team to provide safe, high‑quality care to children, young people and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the in‑hospice team to provide safe, high‑quality care.
  • Manage shift operations, organising complex and sometimes conflicting priorities.
  • Provide nursing advice organisation‑wide to support individualised care in collaboration with the multi‑professional team.
  • Maintain standards of cleanliness within the clinical area during your shift.
  • Facilitate the development of all junior staff within the team.
  • Promote continual improvement of child/young person care through research and evidence‑based practice.
  • Take delegated responsibility for the hospice in the absence of the Lead Nurses.
  • Be part of the Clinical On‑Call Rota, providing out‑of‑hours support for the In‑House Team.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with Child/Learning Disabilities or Adult NMC registration.
  • Recent experience as a Band 5/6 in a clinical setting.
  • Experience working with children who have complex care needs and/or a palliative diagnosis is desirable.
  • Strong ability to think on your feet and problem‑solve in a fast‑paced clinical environment.
