In this role you join Shoosmiths’ growing Construction team to handle high-quality non-contentious construction work across development, investment, and infrastructure projects. You will work with cross-functional colleagues to deliver practical, commercially-focused advice and manage matters with early responsibility. The role offers exposure to major UK projects and client relationships, with opportunities to influence project delivery and firm growth. Responsibilities
- Advise on non-contentious construction matters across development, investment and infrastructure projects
- Draft and negotiate JCT, NEC, bespoke contracts, and development/lease agreements
- Advise on consultant appointments, collateral warranties, bonds, guarantees, and third-party rights
- Support procurement strategies, risk allocation, and project delivery issues
- Collaborate with Real Estate and Infrastructure teams to provide cohesive advice
- Contribute to client relationship management and business development initiatives
Key requirements
- Qualified solicitor with 5+ years PQE in a recognized construction practice
- Strong experience in non-contentious construction, including JCT and/or NEC contracts
- Excellent drafting skills with strong commercial awareness
- Ability to manage matters and workstreams independently
- Strong relationship-building and client service focus
- Experience supervising and mentoring junior lawyers
- Collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for business development
- Desirable: experience advising on major development, regeneration, infrastructure or energy projects
- Desirable: knowledge of development finance structures and funder requirements
- Desirable: experience with Building Safety Act related issues and documentation
