Line Manager: Merchandiser

Location: Hybrid role based in Central London or Livingston/Bathgate, Scotland

JOB PURPOSE - Effectively implement the ranges planned by Buying & Merchandising at store level to ensure the right product is in the right place at the right time and in the right quantity and support the Merchandising team with analysis and administration of the department. To support the Merchandising team with all aspects of analysis and administration to ensure that the department can meet all key deadlines and effectively trade each product area to optimise stock availability in relation to sales. To ensure that support for supplier, channel and team requirements is efficient and accurate.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • ALLOCATIONS & RTW Action pre-allocations for new and repeat deliveries, in line with grading plan, for each locale, to timescales defined. Focus on priority lines, bestsellers, NOOS, and dynamic lines. Awareness of trading calendar and events, allocate stock pre sale periods and student events using historical analysis. Manage stock across all sites. Update replen packages with guidance from Asst Merch. Awareness of scarce stock lines and implications for allocations. Enter onto system, brown tape RTW for over capacity stores. Review VAT non displayable end. Review dynamic, seasonal, selected lines for red tap RTW. Run last pairs and lines report. Answer store queries/forms from regional managers.
  • INTAKE MANAGEMENT Support the Asst Merch with stock management activity such as reviewing intake plans, placing repeats, chasing stock with Suppliers/Brands, and seeking opportunistic in-season stock allocations for strong performers, keeping on top of the order book for your area. Support the Asst Merch with the management of intake into the DC ensuring the right stock is brought into the business and the volumes can be managed by the Stock Intake Co-ordinator, support with re-phasing intake as required in line with warehouse capacity. Action purchase orders for repeats Keep on top of repeat availability dates, chasing suppliers as required. Action purchase order amends/date changes onto system. Chase and clear balances.
  • DATA & ANALYSIS Support the Merchandising team with performance and data analysis using BI, Shark, excel and other MIS sources to produce analysis such as seasonal performance by category, sub-category, channel, brand, style including sizing. Produce Monday trade documents and mid week sales updates. Understand the reasons behind the performance, know your best and worst sellers. Review performance at line & store level each week – identify issues and opportunities and suggest actions. Develop an understanding of how performance indicators and trading decisions can impact profitability.
  • CUSTOMER & MARKET AWARENESS Maintain a commercial and customer focus in all activities and decisions. Demonstrate an understanding of the schuh customer and expectations they have when shopping with us. Keep abreast of sales performance understanding best and worst sellers. Demonstrate a passion for the products we sell and an awareness of market trends. Regularly visit schuh stores, concessions and online - highlighting any ideas, opportunities or concerns. Demonstrate outstanding knowledge of what our competitive set are doing on the high street and online conducting regular visits to assess their ranges and activities. Understand and comply with health and safety rules and anti-bribery policy.
  • PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT Take responsibility for continually improving own performance by agreeing and achieving objectives. Arrange regular performance reviews with your manager. Be proactive in driving your own personal development. Seek/receive feedback on your development for your career progression and utilise training, development and support resources available. Demonstrate self-awareness and an understanding of others needs and own impact on others.
  • COMPETENCIES / SKILLS / ATTRIBUTES Highly numerate and analytical. Competent user of advanced excel, confident in use of data and Shark and BI. Excellent time management and communication skills with the ability to prioritise effectively. Awareness of retail industry and competition within sector. Role models schuh values. Demonstrates an ability to work consistently to high standards. Is self-motivated to achieve. Is able to contribute to team effectiveness. Demonstrates a focus on finding solutions and improvements which add value to customers and the overall business. Build strong relationships with the wider team including merchandising, buying, eCommerce, marketing, store managers, DC.
