About Us:

Shloc Ltd is a UK company providing creative services to the video game industry. Our primary work is in localisation, which usually involves translating major Japanese video game titles into English, and then on into a range of other languages. We are also very involved in voice recording and directing, do some original writing, and are also beginning a move into developing games of our own.

The Role:

We are looking for a senior project manager, specifically someone with native-level Japanese who can help facilitate direct communication with clients in Japanese. However, the role will involve plenty of work in English too, so a strong bilingual candidate is a must.

The broader role would involve managing teams of translators across multiple large projects, ensuring that work is apportioned, deadlines are hit, and any issues that arise are dealt with promptly and effectively. Our reputation has been built upon keeping our clients happy, and it's essential that this continue, even as we grow.

Our ideal candidate would be someone capable of eventually transitioning into senior management, and helping run the company as a whole.

While the role would be almost entirely remote, we do have an office in Tokyo where we may occasionally be based, and occasional visits to clients in Japan would be likely. Due to the need to cover both the UK and Japanese time zones, our candidate will need to be based in the UK or Japan.

Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day communication between clients, colleagues and outsourcers.
  • Management, tracking and processing of tasks across multiple project teams.
  • Processing and management of large numbers and types of files, including game builds and filetypes associated with proprietary client tools.
  • Careful tracking of project progress across multiple freelancers, projects and teams.
  • Quickly and efficiently solving any problems that impede project progress.
  • Keeping management abreast of project progress, and quickly flagging any issues.
  • Keeping a number of stakeholders happy across a number of clients and projects.
  • Working with the finance team to make sure billing and invoicing proceed smoothly each month.

Requirements:

  • Native-level Japanese.
  • As close to Native-level English as possible.
  • Based in the UK or Japan.
  • Experience of liaising between clients, colleagues, and/or outsourcers.
  • Experience of assigning and tracking tasks and responsibilities.
  • Experience of working in the creative industries. Video games experience a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and an ability to anticipate and meet client needs.
  • An ability to adapt to and help others work with various tools, filetypes and processes. Every project is different, and we do not choose the tools and processes used.
