Shirley Parsons are supporting a leading engineering and manufacturing organisation in the defence sector to recruit a Quality Engineer to join a growing quality team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a quality professional with a strong mechanical engineering or manufacturing background looking to work on complex, safety-critical engineering programmes. Working closely with engineering, production and inspection teams, you will play a key role in ensuring quality standards are maintained across bespoke, low-volume manufacturing projects.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support and maintain the ISO 9001 Quality Management System
  • Conduct internal audits and support compliance activities
  • Investigate non-conformances and drive corrective actions
  • Lead root cause analysis using tools such as 8D, 5 Whys and Ishikawa
  • Review engineering documentation, Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), quality records and certification packs
  • Challenge processes where required and raise concerns when quality standards or compliance requirements are at risk
  • Work closely with engineering and production teams to improve quality performance and drive Right First Time (RFT) delivery.

What we're looking for:

  • Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship, NVQ, HNC, HND or equivalent engineering qualification
  • Strong understanding of ISO 9001:2015 and quality management principles
  • Experience within defence, aerospace, marine, heavy engineering, rotating equipment or other highly regulated sectors
  • Experience using root cause analysis and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and GD&T
