We are seeking an experienced and driven Waste Compliance Officer to join a critical compliance and contracts team supporting Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) operations across Cumbria. This field-based role plays a vital part in ensuring contractual, regulatory, and operational compliance across multiple sites. Working closely with the Subcontracts Manager and operational colleagues, you'll provide expert oversight, practical guidance, and assurance within a demanding and highly regulated waste environment. This is an opportunity to join a long-term public service contract with clear scope for development into a senior or broader contracts role over time.

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring, maintaining, and reporting on compliance with waste contracts, SLAs, PPIs, and permit conditions across all HWRC sites
  • Managing and overseeing contractor performance, ensuring contractual and operational standards are consistently met
  • Undertaking regular, hands-on site visits to engage with operations, identify issues, and support compliance improvement
  • Collecting, interpreting, and analysing waste data and flows, providing clear and accurate information to internal and external stakeholders

Qualifications

  • Proven experience within waste management, HWRC operations, environmental compliance, or a closely related sector
  • A strong understanding of waste contracts, regulatory requirements, permits, and how these translate into operational delivery
  • The ability to interpret complex contractual requirements and clearly explain the operational "why" behind them
