Job Description

Compliance and Permit Officer

Canary Wharf, London

£38,000 – £40,000 (12-month FTC)

A fixed-term opportunity to join the Health, Safety & Compliance team of a leading organisation, ensuring contractor works are delivered safely and in line with permit-to-work procedures. Based primarily in Canary Wharf with travel across sites, this role offers a mix of office and site-based work, with one day WFH after probation.

The Compliance and Permit Officer will be responsible for:

  • Acting as the liaison between the organisation and contractors to ensure compliance with permit-to-work procedures.
  • Conducting pre-, during-, and post-work inspections to confirm RAMS and safety measures are in place.
  • Reviewing contractor RAMS, competency and certification before works commence.
  • Escalating and stopping works where unsafe practices are identified.
  • Logging monitoring outcomes and contributing to monthly compliance reports.
  • Supporting permit-to-work issuance and assisting with audits.

The Compliance and Permit Officer will have:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent).
  • Strong organisational skills to manage high volumes of permits and applications.
  • Excellent communication skills with employees, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation relating to permits and contractor compliance.
  • (Desirable) Additional training/knowledge in working at height, fire safety, confined spaces, asbestos, electrical, or gas safety.
