This role is perfect for someone who wants to blend hands-on environmental management with strategic influence, bringing ISO standards back to life, shaping decarbonisation initiatives, and embedding sustainability into everyday commercial decision‑making. If you’re looking for a role with scope, visibility, and the chance to be a true internal changemaker, this is it.
You’ll be the environmental subject matter expert across the group, responsible for maintaining a robust ISO14001 management system, interpreting regulations, improving environmental data processes, and identifying opportunities to reduce carbon, waste, and environmental risk. Working closely with operations, sustainability, commercial teams, suppliers and site colleagues, you’ll ensure environmental performance becomes a core business strength and a competitive advantage.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Rebuild, maintain and continually improve the ISO14001 environmental management system, including aspects/impacts registers, audits, training, and governance.
- Develop and deliver environmental data capture and reporting across carbon (scope 1–3), waste, packaging, and regulatory metrics.
- Lead compliance for key regulations including plastic tax, extended producer responsibility, hazardous waste streams, WEEE, F-Gas and more.
- Identify carbon “hotspots” and collaborate with teams across fleet, packaging and operations to develop reduction projects and uncover efficiencies.
- Act as the environmental expert for tenders, bids and customer enquiries, supporting commercial teams in positioning sustainability as a USP.
- Build relationships across the organisation, influencing managers and site teams to embed behaviour change and environmental improvement initiatives.
Who They’re Looking For:
- Experienced in developing, maintaining and auditing ISO14001 systems, ideally across multi-site operations.
- Comfortable travelling to sites across the UK as part of an ongoing audit and engagement plan.
- Key understanding of environmental legislation and reporting, including carbon reporting (scope 1–3), producer responsibility and waste regulations.
- Analytical, data‑driven and commercially aware, able to translate environmental data into insights, opportunities and business cases.
- A relationship builder who can work with senior leaders, operational teams and external partners to gain buy-in and deliver improvements.
