Job Title: Design Engineer – Design Coordinator

A leading UK-based civil engineering contractor is seeking a talented Design Engineer to join their Technical Services team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on complex infrastructure projects, including heavy civil engineering and tunnelling, while driving innovation and digital engineering practices. The ideal candidate will bring experience from multiple sectors particularly nuclear, construction, and defence to help shape and deliver high-impact design solutions. Responsibilities
- Managing design consultant activities and deliverables to meet programme and client requirements.
- Leading technical aspects of permanent works design and supporting temporary works packages.
- Coordinating design queries, workshops, and interface meetings across internal and external teams.
- Reviewing and reporting on design progress, ensuring compliance with contract and BIM requirements.
- Managing the provision and control of drawings and design documentation.
- Supporting recruitment, training, and development of engineering staff.
Qualifications
- Substantial experience in both construction and design, ideally within heavy civil engineering or tunnelling.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, Principal Designer duties, and CDM regulations.
- Proven ability to implement and promote digital engineering practices.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills across multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience managing design deliverables and working with external consultants and supply chain.
- A background in sectors such as nuclear, construction, or defence would be highly desirable.
