Role Description: As a Vetting Superintendent you will serve as a subject matter expert for maritime assurance, vetting and clearance activities. The role requires accountability for ensuring compliance with client and industry standards, while promoting a strong, proactive safety culture across all Vetting areas. Our clients look to us to proactively manage and evolve their Vetting Standards, whilst assessing vessels, owners and managers against these standards for the intended trade. Performing vetting and clearance assessments, including screening and clearance of oil, gas, chemical and dry bulk vessels and terminals; vessel owner/technical manager, STS partners and terminal operator reports to investigate their conformance with the defined standards and their suitability for use by our clients. The successful candidate will conduct data-driven performance analysis, and drive the adoption of new value-added standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Performing vetting and clearance assessments of LNG, LPG, Oil, Chemical, and Dry bulk (optional) vessels and terminals, ensuring vessels and managers meet HSE standards.
- Providing operational assurance for time-charter and COA fleets.
- Conducting risk assessments for third-party marine assets.
- Maintaining accurate database records.
- Providing expert advice on marine safety/compliance.
- Ensuring all Vetting findings & actions are managed & effectively closed out within agreed timeframes.
This position demands a highly experienced marine professional with extensive HSE experience, particularly in Tanker/LNG/LPG shipping operations and strong IT skills to manage our technical vetting systems and performance database, providing feedback to improve where possible. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with internal teams and external chartering or operations stakeholders to ensure flawless service delivery, high attention to detail, and continuous improvement of ShipVet's maritime assurance offerings. As an Ex-Inspector the candidate must have intricate knowledge of SIRE, BIRE and CDI reports alongside Port State Control Inspections and Terminal loading reports. You should also have the ability to perform operational excellence audits such as TMSA and DryBMS (optional). You would monitor regulatory developments and suggest standards updates to drive our continuous improvement culture. As a Senior Vetting Superintendent we would look for you to provide training to newly appointed Vetting Superintendents and ensuring competency within the team. The role involves performance of vessel inspections when requested by clients of ShipVet, you may also attend vessels in-port and go to sea with a vessel as required to fulfil project requirements.
Job Requirements: The ideal candidate will preferably have the following:
- Sailing experience at senior position (top 4) on board Oil, LNG, LPG or Chemical Tankers.
- OCIMF/SIRE or CDI Inspector accredited with at least 2 years practice.
- Marine Industry/ISM/ISO Audit qualified.
- Deep understanding of OCIMF's TMSA, MTIS and STS Provider Self-Assessment programs.
- (Optional) Experience working with DryBMS or OVMSA.
- Lead Ship and Safety Management System Audits.
- Lead Marine Incident Investigations.
- (Preferred) Terminal Assessment Experience.
- Detail orientated with a reliable, methodical way of working to ensure high standards.
- Experience managing a database through input and ongoing interaction.
- Practical working experience with OCIMF/SIRE/BIRE, CDI, PSC, USCG, Class surveys, Flag State inspections and Terminal operator reports.
- Strong communication skills to ascertain Vetting details from external stakeholders or respond to Vetting queries from our clients.
- Working knowledge of ship construction, maintenance, machinery, operations, commercial management, and chartering.
