About the Role

Shillito Group are working on behalf of a leading Sheffield based manufacturer to recruit a Heat Treatment Operator to join their Engineered Products team. This is a hands-on production role responsible for the heat treatment of specialist rotating shaft components and other critical alloy parts. The position involves operating furnaces, conducting quality checks, and supporting associated saw and materials-handling operations within a heavy manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely handle and move materials using overhead cranes and FLTs.
  • Operate heat treatment furnaces, following detailed process instructions for metallurgical compliance.
  • Assist with cutting and sawing of special alloys, remelt electrodes, and shafts.
  • Operate and record results using a Brinell hardness testing machine.
  • Program and monitor furnace control systems, recording data through SFDC systems.
  • Carry out daily compliance and temperature checks.
  • Support dispatching and material flow within the department.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and adhere strictly to Health & Safety policies.
  • Participate in process improvement, problem-solving, and 5S activities.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Experience within heat treatment, forging, or heavy engineering environments preferred.
  • Confident operating cranes and forklift trucks (training can be provided).
  • Understanding of furnace control, temperature cycles, or metallurgical processing advantageous.
  • Proactive approach to safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Basic computer literacy and ability to follow written instructions accurately.

Qualifications:

  • 5 GCSEs (A-C or equivalent) preferred, or relevant industrial experience.
