We are delighted to be supporting an international manufacturing business with the recruitment of a Digital Manufacturing Engineer. This is a key appointment supporting the Manufacturing Digital Thread programme and Industry 4.0 tools. The purpose of the role is to manage, embed and maintain critical Digital Manufacturing core systems such as Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Computer Aided Design / Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) and Manufacturing Execution System (MES), whilst supporting integration, development and maintenance of auxiliary systems such as Tool Management System, Simulation software - machining and material FEA, 3D scanning and robotics.
This role will act as the point of contact within the business to engage with the OEM, and manage the relationship whilst engaging with IT to ensure all future developments, continuous improvement and maintenance activities work seamlessly.
The scope of the job:
- Digital Manufacturing: Knowledge of Manufacturing processes and how the use of digital tools can enhance and optimize operations on the shop floor for complex, large-scale forging and machining processes.
- Manufacturing Support: Serve as a key interface between design engineering, production, IT, and quality to ensure manufacturability and operational efficiency.
- Process Standardisation: Develop and maintain standardised digital processes and workflows across departments and systems.
- Production Enablement: Deliver digital work instructions, training, and support to shop floor teams, enabling right-first time manufacturing execution.
- Collaboration with Engineering: Ensure design data is production-ready and properly transferred into manufacturing systems.
- Engagement with Continuous Improvement Teams: Lead or participate in improvement projects leveraging digital tools and LEAN methods.
- Future Capability Building: Help define and develop long-term digital manufacturing capabilities, including simulation, automation, and predictive maintenance systems.
The responsibilities of the job:
The responsibility of this role is to enable a high performing digital manufacturing and data driven culture, utilising integrated OT systems digital tools within the operational facilities. Support and embed strategic digital transformation, and uphold standards critical to defence manufacturing.
The tasks of the job:
- Ensure that Core OT systems are delivered, managed, embedded and maintained so that the business is fully optimized for Digital Transformation and operational success.
- Develop, define and support digital processes workflows to enable efficient and precise manufacturing of large-scale, high integrity components.
- Provide user training and first-line support for digital manufacturing systems across the business.
- Implement and sustain LEAN methodologies to eliminate waste, reduce variation, and improve process flow across the factory.
- Support creation of the digital thread, ensuring traceable, validated data across all stages of the product lifecycle.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Quality, and IT teams to drive adoption of digital tools and improve data continuity.
- Deliver digital work instructions, visualisations, and manufacturing simulations to support operator effectiveness and process understanding.
