As part of our continued growth across Europe, we are seeking an experienced Subject Matter Expert (SME) with deep expertise in Communications Surveillance, Market Abuse Surveillance, and Conduct Risk. This individual will play a critical role in shaping our market strategy, engaging with customers, influencing product direction, and driving commercial growth.

The Role

The SME will serve as a recognised industry authority, acting as the bridge between customers, prospects, regulators, internal product teams, and the wider market. The successful candidate will leverage their extensive banking surveillance experience to support business development activities, contribute to product strategy, represent Shield at industry events, and help position the company as a thought leader across Europe. This is a highly visible role requiring strong commercial acumen, executive presence, and the ability to engage credibly with senior stakeholders across financial services institutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Business Development & Customer Engagement
    • Partner with Sales teams to support strategic business development initiatives.
    • Engage directly with prospective and existing customers to understand business challenges and regulatory requirements.
    • Participate in customer meetings, workshops, discovery sessions, and executive briefings.
    • Provide subject matter expertise throughout the sales cycle, helping articulate business value and regulatory alignment.
    • Support proposal development, RFP responses, and strategic account planning.
  • Industry Thought Leadership
    • Represent Shield at industry conferences, forums, and regulatory events across Europe.
    • Deliver presentations, panel discussions, webinars, and keynote sessions on market trends, surveillance, conduct risk, and compliance.
    • Build and maintain relationships with industry bodies, regulatory communities, and market participants.
    • Contribute to white papers, market research, thought leadership content, and industry commentary.
  • Customer Events
    • Design, organise, and host customer roundtables, executive networking events, and advisory councils.
    • Facilitate discussions with senior compliance, surveillance, risk, and regulatory leaders.
    • Gather market insights and customer feedback to influence company strategy and product development.
  • Product Strategy & Roadmap
    • Act as the voice of the market within Shield.
    • Collaborate closely with Product Management and Engineering teams to define future product direction.
    • Translate customer needs, regulatory developments, and industry trends into actionable product requirements.
    • Help prioritise roadmap initiatives that deliver maximum customer and commercial impact.
    • Support product launches and go‑to‑market initiatives.
  • Market Intelligence
    • Monitor regulatory developments, competitor activity, and emerging market trends.
    • Provide strategic insights to executive leadership on market opportunities and threats.
    • Identify new use cases, partnerships, and growth opportunities across financial services sectors.

Requirements

Essential

  • 10+ years of experience in Banking Surveillance, Market Abuse Surveillance, Communications Surveillance, Conduct Risk, Financial Crime Compliance, or related regulatory technology fields.
  • Proven experience leading or delivering major surveillance transformation projects or programmes within global financial institutions, or from a Product / Change role.
  • Senior‑level experience within Tier 1 or Tier 2 investment banks, retail banks, or financial institutions; or a Big Four consulting firm (Deloitte, EY, KPMG, PwC) with a focus on financial services compliance, surveillance, conduct risk, or regulatory transformation.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks affecting financial institutions across the UK and Europe.
  • Experience engaging with C‑suite executives, heads of compliance, heads of surveillance, risk officers, and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success supporting business development, customer engagements, or consulting‑led sales activities.
  • Excellent presentation and public‑speaking skills.
  • Experience influencing product strategy, operating models, or transformation roadmaps, with knowledge of communications surveillance, eComms monitoring, market abuse detection, trade surveillance, and conduct risk programmes.
  • Existing network within the European financial services compliance community.

Desirable

  • Experience working with surveillance technologies, RegTech platforms, or compliance software providers.
  • Experience working in a high‑growth technology or SaaS environment.
