Shield Safety is seeking an experienced Fire Safety Consultant / Fire Risk Assessor to provide fire safety services on a contract basis. This is an opportunity for a qualified fire safety professional to deliver Fire Risk Assessments and related services to a diverse portfolio of Hospitality and Retail clients across the UK, working with a leading Environmental Health consultancy. The role focuses on the delivery of defined fire safety services and outcomes, including Fire Risk Assessments and technical fire safety advice. It is well suited to a self-motivated consultant who operates independently, manages their own workload, and uses professional judgement to meet agreed contractual requirements, while working alongside Shield Safety stakeholders where necessary to deliver services.

Job Purpose: The purpose of this contract role is to deliver fire safety services to Shield Safety clients in accordance with an agreed scope of services. The Fire Safety Consultant will carry out Fire Risk Assessments and related fire safety activities, liaise with clients on technical fire safety matters, and provide professional advice to support effective risk management and compliance outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver Fire Risk Assessments within an agreed geographical area in accordance with the contracted scope of services and agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Plan, schedule, and manage the delivery of Fire Risk Assessments autonomously, using professional judgement to meet contractual deliverables and timescales.
  • Where agreed, provide Fire Risk Assessment services in alternative geographical areas, subject to availability and separate agreement.
  • Ensure Fire Risk Assessment reports are completed, uploaded, and submitted accurately in line with agreed contractual requirements.
  • Interface with Shield Safety’s Fire QA process to facilitate the timely review and release of Fire Risk Assessment reports.
  • Where required within the scope of contracted services, provide professional technical input to support responses to Fire Risk Assessment appeals or escalations.
  • Provide fire safety technical advice to clients and Shield Safety stakeholders as necessary to support the delivery of contracted services.
  • Liaise with Service Coordinators solely to facilitate access, scheduling, and delivery of agreed Fire Risk Assessment services.
  • Review and address client-specific requirements prior to undertaking Fire Risk Assessments.
  • Deliver fire safety services in line with agreed service specifications, applicable legislation, recognised industry standards, and client expectations.
  • Attend meetings directly related to the delivery of contracted services, where reasonably required.
  • Where separately agreed, deliver additional fire safety services including training, technical advice, and occupancy or means of escape reviews.
  • Provide technical input to support sales opportunities or client meetings upon request and subject to availability.
  • Maintain professional competency, accreditation, professional registration, and ongoing CPD necessary to deliver the contracted services.

Skills & Experience:

  • Membership of the Institute of Fire Safety Managers (IFSM).
  • Level 3 qualification in Fire Risk Assessment or Level 3 in Fire Safety Management.
  • Minimum of 1 year working in a consultancy environment or 2 years within the Fire Service.
  • Strong customer focus with commercial awareness.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Professional, proactive, and solutions-focused approach.
  • Experience in the validation or QA of Fire Risk Assessments (desirable but not essential).
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Flexibility to travel as required.
