If so, the Shetland Islands Council is offering an exciting opportunity to work at excellently resourced Whalsay School. Our beautiful location offers great opportunities for learning and we benefit from an excellently resourced school, at the heart of a caring, supportive community.
Whalsay School is a non-denominational school located in Symbister, Whalsay. It provides nursery, primary and secondary education up to S4 for children from the whole island of Whalsay. The structure of the school is a nursery setting, 4 composite primary classes and S1-4 secondary classes. There is currently a total of 164 pupils on the roll, inclusive of all phases. The school is managed by a Head Teacher and a Depute Head Teacher (job-share). The current staffing complement is 17 part-time/full time teachers assisted by support staff as required to meet school demands.
Candidates should detail in their application whether they currently hold registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS). If not, candidates should detail in their application whether they have sought confirmation that they will be able to be registered with the GTCS. As well as the relevant qualifications and experience, qualities we are looking for in the successful candidate are: vision, energy, initiative, good communication skills and self-discipline.

- Rate of pay shown in the advert is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £1.8219 per hour
- Permanent Part Time post for 14.0 Hours per Week
- Preferred candidates will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update prior to a formal offer of employment being made
- You must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) prior to starting in post
