The purpose of this post is to work effectively as a lead member of an Early Learning and Childcare team to support in the delivery of a high quality, safe and balanced education and care service, which meets the needs of each young child and their families and is in accordance with relevant legislation and guidelines.

Scalloway Primary School is a non-denominational school located in the village of Scalloway, 7 miles from the main town of Lerwick. The school's catchment area includes Scalloway, Trondra and the Tingwall Valley as far north as Griesta. There are 6 classes in the Primary Department and a large Early Years and Childcare Department (delivering up to 30 hours per week). There are currently a total of 183 pupils on the school and ELC roll combined. Secondary education for years S1-S6 is provided at the Anderson High School in Lerwick. The school canteen is onsite providing hot and cold meals daily.

Adjacent to the Primary School and ELC are Hame fae Hame (Childcare provision) and the Health Centre. The school makes use of the Games hall which is situated next door. The school is managed by the Head Teacher (Mrs Morag Fox) and acting Head Teacher 1 day a week (Mrs Cheryl Mouat) two Principal Teachers. The current teaching staff comprises of 5 full-time class teachers and 1 job-share. PE, Art and Music are provided by peripatetic specialists with a range of instrumental instruction timetabled for P5-7 pupils. Further support is provided by our Support for Learning teachers where appropriate. A team of Learning Support Workers complement the role of the SfL teachers to meet the needs of all of our pupils.

The grade of this post is G or H. This post is NOT career graded - your salary will depend on your experience and qualifications. Rate of pay shown in the advert is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £1.5523 per hour. Permanent Part Time post for 7.0 Hours per Week, 40.5 weeks per year plus 6.48 weeks (pro rata) paid holiday to be taken during school holidays.

Preferred candidates will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update prior to a formal offer of employment being made. The successful candidate will have to complete registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) when they begin in post. A relocation package does not apply to this post. We will pay interview expenses from within Shetland. We are happy to talk flexible working.
