The role of the Library Assistant is to provide services and assistance to Shetland Library users of all ages and abilities. This is a busy customer service job, mainly working on our service desks. Day to day work will include helping people with reading choices, computers and e-services, and dealing with queries in person, by phone or email. There is also a significant amount of moving, sorting and shelving books.
In addition, Library Assistants participate in a range of duties such as:
- Processing of book reservations or new stock
- Helping to run events, Bookbug or story times
- Creating displays and promotions
Work may be assigned in public and school library branches or at library outreach events.
The grade of this post is E. Rate of pay shown in the advert is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £1.5523 per hour. This is a permanent part-time post for 21.0 hours per week, 52.18 weeks per year.
Preferred candidates will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update prior to a formal offer of employment being made. A relocation package does not apply to this post. We will pay interview expenses from within Shetland. We are happy to talk flexible working.
