Are you an enthusiastic, creative and inspiring Teacher of Home Economics with the skills, confidence and energy to make a positive impact on the lives of our children and young people? If so, the Shetland Islands Council is offering an exciting opportunity to work at excellently resourced Mid Yell Junior High School, Yell and Baltasound Junior High School, Unst. Our beautiful location offers great opportunities for learning and we benefit from an excellently resourced school, at the heart of a caring, supportive community.

Mid Yell Junior High School is a non-denominational school located in Mid Yell, Yell. It provides nursery, primary and secondary education, up to S4, for children from Central, Mid and East Yell for Primary and the whole island of Yell for Secondary. The structure of the school is 1 nursery class, 2 composite primary classes and a class for each of the S1-4 years. There is currently a total of 90 pupils on the roll. The school is managed by a Head Teacher and 1 Depute Head Teacher. The current staffing complement is 16 teachers assisted by support staff as required to meet school demands.

Baltasound Junior High School is a non-denominational school located in Unst. It provides nursery, primary and secondary education up to S4 for children from the island of Unst. The structure of the school is 1 nursery, 3 composite primary classes and S1-4 classes. There is currently a total of 95 pupils on the roll. The school is managed by a Head Teacher and 1 Depute Head Teacher. The current staffing complement is 15 teachers assisted by support staff as required to meet school demands.

Candidates should detail in their application whether they currently hold registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS). If not, candidates should detail in their application whether they have sought confirmation that they will be able to be registered with the GTCS. As well as the relevant qualifications and experience, qualities we are looking for in the successful candidate are: vision, energy, initiative, good communication skills and self-discipline.

The grade of this post is TCHR. Salary shown in the advert is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £2,859 per annum. Permanent Full Time post for 35.0 Hours per Week. Preferred candidates will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update prior to a formal offer of employment being made. You must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) prior to starting in post. We would welcome applications from flexible route probationers. A relocation package does apply to this post. We will pay interview expenses from within the UK. We are happy to talk flexible working.
