Build a long-term career, not just your next job. We are expanding our commercial gas team across the South West and South Wales due to growth on long-term contracts. This is a planned expansion, not a replacement hire.
Before we get into the day-to-day, here’s what really matters:
- Career progression - the real kind. At Sherwoods, progression isn’t rushed and it isn’t based on empty promises. Several members of our senior leadership team started with us as apprentices. They learned the trade properly, proved themselves over time, and progressed because they were ready - not because of a job title being dangled in front of them.
- We won’t promise you a supervisor role in three months. What we will offer is:
- A stable, growing business
- Clear opportunities as the company expands
- Support, training, and trust as you develop
- A long-term career path if you want one
If you’re good at what you do, committed, and want to grow, we’ll back you.
Why this role is different:
- This is a role for commercial gas engineers who want to settle in and build something, not hop between short-term jobs.
- Planned work with realistic schedules
- Trusted to manage your day once on site
- No micromanagement, no unnecessary pressure
- A business that hires ahead of demand, not after people burn out
What you’ll be doing:
- Planned and reactive commercial gas maintenance across client sites
- Fault finding, repairs, and minor installation works
- Working to a realistic, pre-planned schedule
- Completing work safely and in line with Gas Safe and industry regulations
What you’ll need:
- Relevant commercial gas qualifications (e.g. COCN1 / CODNCO1 / TPCP1 / ICPN1 or equivalent)
- Experience in a commercial or maintenance environment
- Full UK driving licence
- Willingness to undertake an enhanced DBS check
What you’ll get:
- Salary up to £45,000, depending on experience
- Realistic earnings nearer £53,000 when door-to-door travel time is included
- Company van + fuel card (AC, cruise control, parking sensors)
- Overtime available (never forced)
Why Sherwoods? We’re a family-run business with over 50 years of doing things properly. We plan ahead, invest in our people, and promote from within wherever possible. If you want a role where you can do good work, develop properly, and progress over time, you’ll fit right in here.
Apply now. No perfect CV needed - send what you’ve got. Everyone gets a response.
