Sherwood Community Centre is seeking a committed Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees and help safeguard the financial health of our much-loved community hub providing financial oversight and liaising with our independent bookkeeper and accountants.

The Treasurer’s contribution will directly shape the future of Sherwood Community Centre. By strengthening our financial planning, reporting and long-term sustainability, you’ll help ensure that the Centre remains a safe, welcoming and vibrant place for everyone who relies on it. Your work will support a huge range of community activities—everything from early-years groups and youth sessions to wellbeing classes, social clubs, support groups and cultural events. Many of these activities are lifelines for people who would otherwise be isolated or unable to access affordable opportunities locally. By helping us make confident financial decisions, you’ll enable us to maintain and improve our ageing building, invest in new programmes, and secure the funding needed to keep our doors open. You’ll also play a key role in helping us adapt to rising costs and changing community needs, ensuring we can continue to offer low-cost, inclusive services for years to come. Ultimately, your leadership will help protect a much-loved community asset and ensure that thousands of local people continue to have a place to connect, learn, grow and feel part of something bigger.

What are we looking for? We’re looking for someone who brings confidence with financial management and a calm, practical approach to supporting a small but busy community organisation. You don’t need to be an accountant, but you should have at least 3 years of working in financial management, bookkeeping or accountancy type role. You must be comfortable working with budgets and financial reports and able to help the board understand the financial implications of our decisions as well as supporting the trustees with board reports and monthly financial updates.

What will you be doing? Our board is a small, committed group of local people who care. We bring a mix of community knowledge, professional experience and lived insight, and we work closely with our staff team to support a busy programme of activities, room hires and community events. Like many community organisations, we’re navigating rising costs, a heritage building and the need to secure sustainable income. We’re also planning ahead strengthening our governance, modernising our systems, and ensuring the Centre continues to serve the community for decades to come. Financial clarity and confident decision-making are essential to all of this, which is why the Treasurer role is so important. We’re looking for a trustee who can take the lead on financial stewardship and help the board make well-informed decisions. You’ll be a part of a Finance Subcommittee, work closely with the fundraising volunteer on budgets and reporting, and guide the board through the financial implications of our plans—whether that’s maintaining the building, investing in new activities, or applying for grants. This is a role for someone who wants to make a tangible difference. Your work will directly support a centre that hosts everything from toddler groups to dance classes, support other charities and groups, social clubs and community celebrations. By helping us stay financially strong, you’ll be enabling thousands of local people to continue finding connection, support and joy at Sherwood Community Centre.
