Description

Maximization of profitable Sales over the shortest acceptable period and with the minimum of bad debt losses.

The basic objective is to protect the company’s investment in receivables to provide the best possible return for the company from the borrowed invested in AR.

To provide financial, clerical, and administrative services to ensure efficient, timely and accurate payment of accounts under his or her control.


Responsibilities

Collections

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with sales and customers to enhance collection activity and ensure repeat business.

  • Reduce outside collection and bad debt expense through effective collection activity.

  • Chase debts by phone/email using strong communication, diplomacy, and negotiation skills to optimise cash inflow and maintain business continuity.

  • Initiate and follow up with business units and customers to obtain payment commitments.

  • Monitor and control debt, ensuring agreed terms are adhered to, and maintain accurate records (notes, emails, responses, follow-ups).

  • Provide management with accurate, timely reports on collection activity and document customer commitments and disputes.

  • Manage order release and resolve queries with customer service/sales to maintain customer satisfaction and prevent reoccurrence.

  • Support month-end aged debt reporting, liaise with stakeholders, and perform ad hoc duties as required.

Role mainly supports the collection team, with potential additional responsibilities based on business needs.

Cash Allocation

  • Contact customers and stakeholders to clarify payment information and resolve issues.

  • Ensure timely and accurate cash application of payments.

  • Identify and properly code deductions and overpayments.

  • Document customer commitments and maintain records of all information.

  • Allocate cash daily and accurately to maintain up-to-date ledgers across multiple currencies.

  • Maintain Sales Ledger/Treasury/GL to ensure accurate master data, adjustments, and transactions (including rebates).

  • Ensure attention to detail across all allocations and reconciliations.

  • Perform ad hoc duties as required.

Credit Review / Audit Management

  • Establish credit terms, limits, and customer setups, assessing risk and liaising with sales (including export knowledge).

  • Assess credit risk using reports and financial statements (balance sheet, P&L) to support business opportunities.

  • Ensure compliance with SOX, company policies, and statutory/regulatory requirements.

  • Support internal and external audit activities.

  • Assess customer risk, propose payment plans, and follow up on legal procedures where required.

  • Process authorised credit/debit notes and rebates.

  • Prepare month-end aged debt reporting files.

  • Perform ad hoc duties as required.


Qualifications
  1. FORMAL EDUCATION:

    Required: GCSE Math's/ English - A-C level would be preferable

Preferred: CICM, AAT studier, part qualified accountant or other relevant professional qualifications.

  1. KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

    Required: 2 years Credit Control or Accounting background

Preferred: 2 years Customer Services background

  1. LANGUAGE SKILLS:

    Required: English

Preferred: French, Spanish, Portuguese or any Nordic languages (Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish) – native or fluent

  1. TECHNICAL/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

    Required:

  • Applying comprehensive credit principles and practices

  • Balancing and reconciling accounts

  • Working with other departments and groups

  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office based program – Outlook, Word, Excel

  • Fluent in English(any other languages as required)

Preferred:

  • Experience in using Oracle in finance capacity

  • Experience in Sage, ABM, Proginov, JED, SAP, Oracle
