The Role: We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Engineering team. This role will focus on the development of innovative, practical, and cost-effective mechanical designs to support telecoms and network infrastructure projects. You will play a key role in delivering solutions that meet stringent performance, environmental, and regulatory requirements, while ensuring designs are suitable for manufacture and installation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce detailed 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings using Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, or equivalent.
  • Generate accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for MRP systems.
  • Design steel fabrications, sheet metal components, and mechanical assemblies for telecoms applications.
  • Support the development of new products, including cabinets, enclosures, and mounting systems.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant legislation, safety standards, and industry requirements.
  • Contribute technical expertise to support delivery of projects to specification, quality, and cost targets.
  • Work closely with manufacturing, procurement, and installation teams to ensure practical and efficient designs.
  • Prepare clear and comprehensive technical documentation for manufacture and installation.

Skills and Experience:

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks.
  • Strong background in mechanical design, particularly in fabrication and sheet metal.
  • Ability to develop practical, manufacturable design solutions.
  • Good understanding of engineering drawings and technical documentation.

Desirable experience:

  • Experience within telecommunications, networking infrastructure, or related industries.
  • Knowledge of outdoor equipment design, including IP ratings and environmental protection requirements.
  • Familiarity with structural design considerations.
  • Experience with electrical integration (240V AC and/or 48V DC systems).
  • Awareness of cooling systems, including HVAC or free-air cooling technologies.
