OPERATIONS MANAGER We are delighted to partner with an established and growing Mechanical contractor, who are seeking to appoint a stand-out Operations Manager to the leadership team based in the West Midlands. The company delivers mechanical packages across data centres, plant rooms, energy centres, new builds and various other commercial and industrial establishments. Day to day the Operations Manager will be responsible for the safe, efficient and profitable delivery of all Mechanical Services projects. The successful hire will lead the operations department, manage a number of Project Managers and site delivery teams, allocate resources, maintain operational standards, and ensure projects are delivered safely, on programme, to the required quality and in accordance with agreed commercial targets. THE OFFER * Very competitive starting salary, £80,000-£90,000 * £8k car allowance after probation * Bupa & Death in service after probation * 25 days holiday plus your birthday off * Buy/sell holiday days * Pension 4% Employee / 5% Employer * EAP and staff discounts CORE DUTIES Operational & Project Management * Lead the operational delivery of all Mechanical projects from internal handover and mobilisation through to completion, commissioning, handover and defects close-out. * Develop and implement operational strategies to improve efficiency and productivity. * Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies. * Provide visible operational leadership for health and safety and ensure Project Managers, Site Supervisors and site teams implement company procedures, RAMS, permits, inspections and corrective actions. * Oversee the development of project schedules, budgets, and resource plans. * Identify underperforming or at-risk projects early, agree recovery actions and monitor them through to completion. * Carry out internal project audits to ensure processes are being carried out correctly. * Own the allocation of operational management, labour and supervision across all Mechanical projects. * Plan operational readiness for major and complex projects, including management capacity, labour, procurement, logistics and project controls. * Own project completion, commissioning, handover documentation, client sign-off and defects close-out. Contracts Management & Administration * Manage contracts with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors. * Monitor project performances, ensuring all parties meet their obligations. * Support the timely resolution of operational and contractual issues in conjunction with the Commercial department. * Work closely with pre-construction and commercial teams to mitigate contract risks. Client & Stakeholder Management * Maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors. * Ensure high levels of client satisfaction through excellent service delivery. * Act as the main point of contact for operational matters. * Support business development by identifying opportunities for new contracts. Strategic Planning & Business Growth * Enhance operational capabilities in line with business growth. * Lead process improvements. Team Leadership & Development * Set clear expectations and create a culture of accountability, teamwork and continuous improvement. * Conduct training, performance reviews, and succession planning. * Ensure apprentice training plans, workplace development and evidence requirements are actively managed. YOU WILL NEED To be considered for this key hire, we will need to see significant experience across commercial and industrial mechanical projects. You might be coming from an Operations Manager position currently, or potentially from a Senior Contracts Manager role. It may be that you are a seasoned and senior Project Manager looking to move into an Ops position. You will need to have management experience, a grip on contracts, an existing knowledge and/or network of subcontractors and a willingness to add significant value to the company and it’s onward trajectory.
