We are working with a growing mechanical engineering and building services contractor delivering projects across the commercial, healthcare, industrial, education, and fit-out sectors. Due to continued growth and an increasing pipeline of work, we are looking to appoint a Mechanical Estimator to support the pre-construction and commercial teams across a wide range of mechanical installation projects. This opportunity is open to both junior and experienced candidates. The role will primarily focus on mechanical take-offs and cost estimation rather than full bid management, supporting the wider commercial team by helping increase estimating capacity across multiple live enquiries.
The RoleYou will be responsible for preparing accurate mechanical estimates and quantity take-offs across heating, pipework, plumbing, and public health projects within building services environments. Working closely with senior estimators, project teams, suppliers, and subcontractors, you will support the pricing and tendering process from enquiry through to submission.
Key Responsibilities- Producing mechanical take-offs from drawings and specifications
- Assisting with preparation of detailed cost estimates and tender submissions
- Reviewing project drawings, specifications, and technical documents
- Pricing mechanical heating, plumbing, pipework, and public health packages
- Obtaining and analysing supplier and subcontractor quotations
- Supporting the commercial and pre-construction teams with project enquiries
- Assisting with value engineering and cost-saving exercises
- Maintaining accurate estimating records and documentation
- Liaising with internal departments, suppliers, and project stakeholders
- Supporting workload across multiple tenders and live opportunities
- Experience within mechanical estimating, building services, M&E, or mechanical contracting environments
- Understanding of heating, plumbing, pipework, and public health systems
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Commercially aware with strong attention to detail
- Proactive attitude and willingness to learn and develop
- Good communication and organisational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work within deadlines
- Experience working on commercial fit-outs, office developments, hospitals, healthcare, education, or similar building services projects
- Experience using EES estimating software (training can be provided)
- Previous exposure to pre-construction or tendering environments
- Knowledge of mechanical installation methods and materials
