We are working with a fast-growing mechanical engineering and infrastructure contractor delivering complex projects across the commercial, industrial, infrastructure, and building services sectors. Due to continued growth and an increasing volume of live projects, we are looking to appoint an experienced Document Controller to support project delivery teams across multiple engineering and construction programmes. This is a key role within the business, responsible for ensuring all project documentation, drawings, technical submissions, QA records, and operational files are accurately managed, distributed, and maintained throughout the full project lifecycle.
The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, engineers, commercial teams, fabrication workshops, and site teams to maintain document control processes across fast-paced mechanical and pipework installation projects.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and maintain all project documentation across multiple live projects
- Control the flow of drawings, technical submissions, RFIs, O&M manuals, QA documentation, and site records
- Ensure all revisions and updates are correctly logged, distributed, and archived
- Upload and manage documentation through common data environments and client portals
- Support project teams with document tracking, reporting, and compliance requirements
- Coordinate drawing registers and ensure engineering teams are working to current revisions
- Maintain accurate records of fabrication, installation, commissioning, and quality documentation
- Assist with compiling handover packs, completion files, and project close-out documentation
- Liaise with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal departments to ensure documentation is issued and returned within required timescales
- Support operational teams with administrative and project coordination duties where required
- Ensure document control processes align with company standards, client specifications, and project requirements
- Previous experience in a Document Controller position within construction, engineering, M&E, mechanical, manufacturing, or infrastructure sectors
- Strong understanding of technical drawings and construction documentation processes
- Experience using document management systems and client portals
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Confident liaising with engineers, site teams, project managers, and external stakeholders
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and document control software platforms
- Experience supporting mechanical, pipework, fabrication, HVAC, or industrial projects
- Knowledge of QA documentation, commissioning records, and handover processes
- Experience working within fast-paced project delivery environments
- Understanding of offsite manufacturing or modular construction processes
