Market-leading sports, media and entertainment firm Sheridans are looking to recruit a commercial and IP lawyer NQ – 3 PQE.
Sheridans are seeking an exceptional junior commercial and IP solicitor. The role is within the sports team but the candidate will also work across the firm’s wider entertainment practice on a variety of high-profile matters. The role will include advising the firm’s extensive and high-profile client base on a range of commercial, investment/funding, intellectual property, technology, digital media, governance and regulatory matters related to the sports and entertainment sectors. While the role will be non-contentious, the candidate should also expect to support on contentious projects from time to time.

It is one of very few genuine industry specialists and is consistently ranked as a tier 1 practice (by Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners). As a full-service legal offering, Sheridans work closely with some of the most recognisable names within sports, digital and interactive media and entertainment, across all their legal and business affairs needs.
The Team provides a full service to the sports industry and has a particular expertise in commercial rights, intellectual property, digital media and sports data, media rights and broadcasting, technology, governance and regulation, and dispute resolution. The Team advises a host of high-profile clients including federations and governing bodies, rights holders, clubs and teams, individual athletes, talent agencies, creative, digital and marketing agencies, sports media companies, broadcasters, content creators, sports data and tech companies, investors, sponsors and brands.
The Team requires a technically excellent junior commercial and IP lawyer. The candidate must be proactive, ambitious, hands-on, team-orientated and capable of supporting (and where appropriate leading) on a wide variety of projects. We are looking for an individual with a strong training and exceptional drafting and technical skills built from previous experience of working in private practice.
The candidate must be an effective communicator, an innovative thinker with fantastic organisational skills and have the confidence to handle a diverse workload with an enthusiasm for innovative business development. The ideal candidate will have:
- Excellent academic background (2:1 degree minimum);
- A strong grasp of commercial contracts and IP law;
- Undertaken his/her training in a pre-eminent legal practice and have post qualification experience of private practice;
- Strong commercial experience and commercial acumen, in particular in the drafting and negotiation of commercial contracts and the licensing of intellectual property rights.
A practical understanding of the sports and entertainment industries is preferable but not a prerequisite. The candidate should be able to work under his/her own initiative but will also have the opportunity to develop his/her skills by working with the wider team which is made up of some of the market’s leading sports and entertainment lawyers.
