JOB TITLE : Associate (1 to 3 PQE) Games GROUP : Interactive & Creative Media TERM : Permanent HOURS : Full-time, 9:30am – 5:30pm, Monday to Friday with one hour for lunch. A flexible approach to working hours is a must, overtime may be required at busy times. We currently operate a hybrid working policy with at least 3 days office working per week. Our hybrid working policy is discretionary and may be subject to change. ABOUT THE TEAM Sheridans Interactive & Creative media team is celebrated for its full-service offering to interactive entertainment and games clients, who include game developers, publishers, esports platforms, distributors, commercial production agencies, VR and AR companies and more. The work of the team is divided into 4 pillars: Advertising, Games, Fashion and Production. The team is well known for its expertise across these pillars and includes a number of recognised industry experts. The team advises from start-up games studios and video and technology development companies to multinational developers and agencies on some of the most cutting-edge legal issues. The team currently comprises of 4 partners, 9 associates, 1 trainee solicitor, 1 paralegal and supported by 5 personal assistants. ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY We are seeking an experienced Associate to join our well-regarded Interactive and Creative Media team at Sheridans. The role will focus predominately on work within our Games pillar, but with flexibility to work across other pillars. The successful individual will be technically astute and has between 1 and 3 years of post-qualification experience within an established firm or in-house practice. RESPONSIBILITIES Managing your own workload cost effectively to provide transactional and advisory legal advice on general commercial contracting matters, including intellectual property, consumer and data protection law to clients in a succinct, practical and persuasive manner Drafting and negotiation of agreements, including but not limited to: Video and computer games development and publishing agreements Consultancy and freelancer agreements Non-disclosure agreements Middleware and technology licensing agreements Promotional and influencer agreements Advice on sector-specific tax credits General games and interactive sector advice The above is not an exhaustive list of duties, and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the Firm and the overall business needs. SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following: Skills & Attributes Genuine interest in and enthusiasm for games and interactive entertainment. Strong drafting and negotiation skills. Clear communicator with the ability to explain legal concepts to non-lawyers. Commercially minded with a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach. Highly organised and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment. Collaborative team player with a proactive attitude and willingness to learn and participate in business development activities Qualifications Qualified solicitor (UK or equivalent jurisdiction) with 1–3 years PQE, ideally with experience in media, tech, or IP law. Solid understanding of commercial contracts and digital content licensing. Interest in the video games industry and familiarity with gaming platforms and business models.
