Sheridan Maine is working with a well-established and growing accountancy practice to recruit a client-focused Accounts Senior Manager. This is a hands-on, senior role managing a diverse portfolio of clients, overseeing accounts and tax compliance, and providing proactive advisory support. The successful candidate will act as a trusted point of contact for clients while leading and mentoring junior staff to deliver high-quality results.
Key responsibilities:
- Managing and developing strong client relationships, acting as the main contact for accounting and tax matters.
- Overseeing the preparation and review of accounts, management accounts, VAT returns, and tax computations in line with statutory requirements.
- Providing proactive advice on tax planning, business structuring, and financial decision-making.
- Supervising, coaching, and mentoring junior accountants to ensure technical excellence and professional development.
- Monitoring workflow, budgets, and deadlines to ensure efficient and profitable delivery of work.
- Acting as an escalation point for complex client queries and providing expert solutions.
- Identifying opportunities to add value to clients, supporting retention and business growth.
Skills and experience required:
- ACCA or ACA qualified (or equivalent) with significant post-qualification experience in practice.
- Strong technical expertise across accounts preparation, corporation tax, VAT, and personal tax.
- Proven experience managing a varied client portfolio.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong leadership skills, with experience supervising and mentoring junior staff.
- Commercially aware, able to identify new opportunities and contribute to business development.
- Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Sage, Xero, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel.
