Sheridan Maine is delighted to be working with a leading accountancy practice in Chelmsford to recruit an experienced Corporate Tax Manager. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong and commercially minded tax professional to take ownership of a diverse client portfolio and play a key role in the continued growth of the firm's corporate tax offering.
You will be responsible for delivering a full range of corporate tax compliance and advisory services, while also supporting the development of junior team members and contributing to the wider success of the tax department.
Your key responsibilities as the Corporate Tax Manager:
- Manage and review corporation tax returns and computations across a varied client portfolio, including SMEs and larger corporate groups.
- Ensure all compliance work is completed accurately and within deadlines.
- Liaise with clients and HMRC on queries, disclosures, and technical matters.
- Maintain robust client records and ensure all filing deadlines are effectively monitored.
- Provide expert advice on corporate tax matters including capital allowances, group relief, loss utilisation, R&D reliefs, and restructuring.
- Support clients with transactions, due diligence, and wider tax planning projects.
- Identify proactive tax planning opportunities to add value to clients.
- Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and client presentations alongside partners.
- Act as a key point of contact for corporate tax clients, building strong and trusted relationships.
- Gain a deep understanding of client businesses to identify risks and opportunities.
- Collaborate with audit, accounts, and advisory teams to deliver a seamless client service.
- Supervise, mentor, and support junior members of the tax team.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of UK corporate tax legislation and HMRC guidance.
- Assist partners with business development activities, including proposals and client pitches.
- Identify opportunities for cross‑selling and service expansion within the existing client base.
To be considered for this Corporate Tax Manager role, you will have:
- ACA / ACCA and/or CTA qualification (or equivalent).
- Significant experience in corporate tax within a professional practice environment.
- Strong knowledge of UK corporate tax legislation and compliance processes.
- Experience managing a client portfolio and delivering both compliance and advisory work.
- Proven ability to supervise and develop junior staff.
- Excellent communication skills with confidence in client‑facing situations.
- Strong commercial awareness and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Experience with tax software such as CCH, Alphatax, or similar systems.
