This is a varied and hands-on role, offering exposure across management accounts, transactional finance, payroll, systems, and financial controls. Key Responsibilities as the Assistant Management Accountant:

  • Support the preparation of monthly management accounts, including accurate collation and validation of financial data.
  • Assist with month-end close processes, including journals, accruals, prepayments, and ledger maintenance.
  • Perform reconciliations across key ledgers, including sales ledger, purchase ledger, and bank accounts.
  • Support accounts payable processes, including invoice processing, payment runs, supplier reconciliations, and query management.
  • Assist with payroll processing, including data input, monthly payroll runs, and reconciliation of payroll control accounts.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements including PAYE, NIC, pensions auto-enrolment, and HMRC reporting.
  • Support preparation and submission of VAT returns, ensuring correct tax treatment of transactions.
  • Assist with financial reporting, providing accurate transactional data and supporting management information packs.
  • Assist with cash flow monitoring and financial analysis where required.
  • Contribute to the use and development of finance systems, supporting data integrity and system improvements.
  • Identify and support implementation of process improvements and automation opportunities within finance operations.
  • Liaise with operational teams, suppliers, and customers to resolve financial queries and ensure smooth processes.
  • Provide ad-hoc reporting and analysis to support management decision-making.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider finance team to support workload priorities and deadlines.

To succeed in this Assistant Management Accountant position:

  • You will ideally have experience in a finance or assistant accountant role and be working towards an AAT, ACCA, or CIMA qualification.
  • You will have a strong understanding of transactional finance and month-end processes, with excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
  • Experience with finance systems (such as Sage) would be beneficial, along with the ability to communicate effectively with both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
