Sheridan Maine is delighted to be partnering with a leading organisation in Weymouth who are looking to appoint an experienced Financial Accountant to join their established finance team.

Location: Weymouth (Hybrid – 2 days office / 3 days home working)

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accountant looking for a technically varied role within a complex, multi-entity environment, with the opportunity to take ownership of statutory reporting, technical accounting, audit management and team development. You will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting across the group, supporting continuous improvement across finance processes and acting as a trusted technical accounting point of contact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation of consolidated and subsidiary statutory accounts, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards including IFRS and UK GAAP.
  • Support statutory reporting requirements across multiple entities and jurisdictions.
  • Manage month-end close activities, including general ledger processes, balance sheet reviews and reconciliations.
  • Take ownership of the external audit process, acting as a key contact for auditors and supporting the delivery of a smooth audit cycle.
  • Provide technical accounting expertise across the business, including reviewing changes in accounting standards and preparing technical papers where required.
  • Oversee group balance sheet controls, identifying risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support the development and enhancement of finance processes, procedures and controls.
  • Manage and mentor a small team, providing guidance, coaching and support to help develop their skills.
  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure accurate and timely reporting.

About You

You will be a qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with strong technical accounting experience and a background in statutory reporting. You will ideally have experience within a complex organisation, with exposure to consolidated accounts, multiple entities and audit management.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Strong knowledge of IFRS and UK GAAP.
  • Proven experience preparing or managing statutory accounts.
  • Experience acting as a key contact during external audits.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience improving accounting processes and controls.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
  • The ability to manage deadlines and prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment.
