Sheridan Maine is delighted to be partnering with a well-established and complex group in Dorset to recruit a Financial Accountant into a key role within their finance function. This position plays a central part in the delivery of external and regulatory reporting, while also supporting audit, technical accounting matters, and ongoing improvements across finance. This role offers remote / hybrid working, but to ensure smooth collaboration with the team and regular on-site requirements, applicants must be based in Dorset or Hampshire. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong accountant who enjoys taking ownership and working to deadlines, the role also includes responsibility for developing and supporting an Assistant Financial Accountant.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparation of statutory accounts for a number of group entities, ensuring accuracy, quality, and compliance
- Support the year-end audit process, responding to audit queries and acting as a key point of contact
- Assist with the preparation of group consolidated accounts for both management and statutory reporting
- Provide technical accounting support across the business, working closely with senior finance colleagues
- Coordinate and deliver a range of regulatory and external financial returns in line with statutory deadlines
- Support the preparation and submission of group VAT returns, including payments and dealing with queries
- Assist with other external reporting requirements, including regulatory and industry returns
- Manage and support an Assistant Financial Accountant, providing regular feedback, coaching, and effective delegation of work
Skills & Experience Required
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent)
- Strong technical accounting background with post-qualification experience in financial and/or management accounting
- Proven experience of statutory accounts preparation and supporting year-end audits
- Sound knowledge of group accounting and consolidation principles
- Working knowledge of VAT, with experience of preparing or supporting VAT returns
- Confident communicator with the ability to work effectively with senior stakeholders and external advisors
- Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail
