Sherborne Schools Group is looking to appoint a Graduate Assistant to support the academic and/or co‑curricular life of the School. This is a residential role based mainly at Sherborne Girls, with opportunities to be involved across the wider Sherborne Schools Group. Accommodation is provided within one of the boarding houses in return for boarding duties, and the role offers an excellent introduction to life in a busy boarding school. It would particularly suit someone considering a future career in teaching or coaching and keen to gain practical, hands‑on experience.

Graduate Assistants are fully involved in day‑to‑day school life. Depending on experience and interests, this may include supporting lessons, helping with activities and clubs, and contributing positively to departmental work. There is also an expectation of involvement in the weekend activities programme, working alongside experienced staff.

As a resident member of staff, the postholder will play an important role in one of the School’s boarding houses, supporting pupils in the evenings and at weekends, helping with house events, and being an approachable and reliable presence for pupils. Full induction and safeguarding training will be provided, and support is available throughout the role.

This is a varied and rewarding position for an enthusiastic, organised and proactive graduate who enjoys working as part of a team and is keen to contribute to the wider life of a school community. The experience gained will be valuable for anyone looking ahead to a career in education or youth development.

Requirements

The successful candidate will be willing to undergo child protection screening, including reference checks with previous employers and a criminal record check with the Disclosure and Barring Service.
