JOB ROLE: Production Supervisor

JOB LOCATION: Huddersfield

REPORTING TO: Production Manager

Shepley Spring are the UK\'s leading bottled water manufacturer with over 20 years\' experience in production and are proud to remain a family run business to this day.

The company operates in three manufacturing facilities across Yorkshire and owns several high-speed production lines with the capabilities of producing both still and sparkling water servicing leading retailers such as Morrisons, Lidl, Booker Tesco and Sainsbury through private label and produces the brands Ice Valley and White Rock exclusively.

Summary

The production supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all activities of workers engaged in Production operation - manufacturing, assembling, and packaging products. Reporting to the Production Manager, you will be responsible for Team Management, Quality Control, Safety Compliance, Production Planning, Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement across the team.

Supervision & Leadership

  • Lead, motivate, and supervise production staff to ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and training to enhance team performance and skill development.

  • Complete RTW as per company procedures

Production Planning & Scheduling

  • Develop production schedules and allocate resources effectively to meet production targets and customer demands.
  • Monitor production processes to identify bottlenecks, minimize downtime, and optimize efficiency.
  • Coordinate with other departments such as procurement, maintenance, and quality control to ensure seamless production flow.
  • Ensure correct Staffing level are in place arrange cover to meet planning demands

Quality Assurance

  • Implement quality control measures to maintain product quality standards and minimise defects.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with quality specifications.
  • Collaborate with the quality assurance team to address any quality issues and implement corrective actions.

Inventory Management

  • Monitor inventory levels of raw materials and finished goods to prevent shortages or excesses.
  • Coordinate with procurement and logistics teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and products.
  • Implement inventory control measures to minimise waste and optimise inventory turnover.

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce safety protocols and procedures to create a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Conduct safety training sessions and ensure adherence to safety regulations and standards.
  • Investigate accidents or incidents and implement preventive measures to mitigate risks.

Performance Monitoring & Performance

  • Track production metrics such as throughput, yield, and efficiency to assess performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Prepare and present production reports to management, highlighting key performance indicators and recommendations for enhancement.
  • Implement data-driven initiatives to optimise production processes and achieve operational excellence

Planning & Organisation: Developing production schedules and workflows to maximize efficiency and meet deadlines. This involves coordinating with various departments, such as procurement, logistics, and quality control.

Resource Management: Managing resources like materials, equipment, and personnel to optimize productivity while minimizing costs. This includes monitoring inventory levels, maintenance schedules for machinery, and staffing requirements.

Quality Control: Implementing and maintaining quality control standards to ensure that products meet customer expectations and regulatory requirements. This involves conducting inspections, analysing production data, and addressing any issues that arise.

Safety Compliance: Ensuring that all production activities comply with health and safety regulations to create a safe working environment for employees. This includes implementing safety protocols, providing training, and investigating accidents or incidents.

Problem Solving: Resolving production issues and addressing any challenges that arise during the manufacturing process. This may involve troubleshooting equipment malfunctions, resolving supply chain disruptions, or finding alternative solutions to meet production targets.

Continuous Improvement: Identifying opportunities to improve processes, reduce waste, and increase efficiency in production operations. This involves gathering feedback from employees, analysing performance metrics, and implementing changes as needed.

Communication: Collaborating with other departments, such as sales, marketing, and engineering, to ensure alignment between production goals and overall business objectives. This also involves communicating with employees to provide guidance, feedback, and updates on production activities.

Competencies (Qualifications)

  • Proven experience in a food or beverage production or manufacturing environment, with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory role
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and engage teams.
  • Awareness of CIP systems
  • TPM, Lean Methodology awareness
  • Ability to use Microsoft office, particularly Excel
  • Solid understanding of production processes, quality control principles, and safety regulations.
  • Proficiency in production planning and scheduling software (e.g. ERP systems).
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in operational standards
  • Experience in food safety and food processing
  • HACCP/Food safety certification
  • Knowledge of Krones/AVE/Sidel equipment
