Most leadership roles ask you to inherit someone else's team.
This one gives you the opportunity to build your own.
Our client is an established and highly respected fire protection business that has built an excellent reputation delivering projects across commercial, residential, industrial and infrastructure sectors.
Following continued growth, they are making a significant investment in launching a dedicated Fire Engineering Consultancy and are looking to appoint an experienced Fire Engineer to lead it.
This is a rare opportunity to shape an entire discipline from the ground up while enjoying the security, investment and client base of an established business.
The Opportunity
You'll become the technical lead for Fire Engineering, building and developing your own team while defining the standards, processes and direction of the department.
This is far more than a senior engineering position.
You'll have genuine influence over the future of the business and the freedom to build a consultancy that reflects your own technical approach and leadership style.
Working closely with the Managing Director, you'll play a key role in growing both the team and its client portfolio.
- What You'll Be Doing
- Lead the delivery of Fire Engineering projects across a varied portfolio.
- Develop Fire Strategy Plans for new build, refurbishment, conversion and complex projects.
- Deliver performance-based fire engineering designs in accordance with BS 7974.
- Carry out compliance assessments against Approved Document B, BS 9991 and BS 9999.
- Provide technical leadership on evacuation strategies, compartmentation, suppression systems and fire safety design.
- Support Building Safety Act compliance, including Gateway submissions and liaison with the Building Safety Regulator.
- Build, recruit and mentor your own Fire Engineering team.
- Establish technical standards, quality procedures and delivery methodologies.
- Represent the business with clients, architects, contractors, regulators and design teams.
- Support business development and help expand the consultancy's market presence.
About You
We're looking to speak with experienced Fire Engineers who enjoy technical excellence but are also excited by the opportunity to build and lead a successful consultancy function.
Ideally you'll have
- A degree in Fire Engineering (or related engineering discipline) or Level 6 Fire qualification.
- At least three years' experience within Fire Engineering or Fire Engineering Consultancy.
- Proven experience producing Fire Strategies and delivering Fire Engineering solutions.
- Strong knowledge of Approved Document B, BS 7974, BS 9991 and BS 9999.
- Associate Membership of the Institution of Fire Engineers (AIFire E) or higher (or working towards).
- Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
- Previous experience leading projects and managing client relationships.
- The ambition to build, develop and mentor a growing engineering team.
If you have the capability, leadership qualities and ambition, we'd love to hear from you—even if you don't tick every box.
- What's On Offer
- Highly competitive salary (above market rate for the right individual).
- Uncapped bonus linked directly to the success of the Fire Engineering division you build.
- Hybrid working.
- Private medical insurance.
- Pension scheme.
- Professional membership fees and ongoing CPD.
- Genuine autonomy to shape a new consultancy function.
- Long-term career progression into a senior leadership position.
Why This Role?
Opportunities like this don't come along very often.
Rather than joining an established team and working within someone else's systems, you'll have the chance to create something from the beginning with the financial backing, reputation and project pipeline of a successful business already in place.
If you've reached the point in your career where you want greater influence, more autonomy and the opportunity to leave a lasting legacy, this could be the move you've been waiting for.
