The predicted salary is between 26500 - 32000 £ per year.

This role will undertake a Modern Apprenticeship and will be supported throughout the apprentice journey by a dedicated Assessor.

The Modern Apprenticeship contract will last two years.

The accounts payable team is responsible for managing most of the firm’s expenditure and is part of the wider cashroom operations team, which manages the books and records of all Shepherd & Wedderburn LLP group companies, including general ledger and client ledger transactions.

The objectives of the Accounts Assistant (Accounts Payable) will include, but are not limited to, all duties as noted in this document, while ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements (HMRC VAT rules, The Law Society of Scotland Solicitors’ Accounts Rules and The Solicitors Regulation Authority Accounts Rules 2011).

Key Responsibilities

  • Process a wide variety of invoices via the firm’s accounts payable system (Emburse Enterprise), including general ledger firm costs, client-related professional expenses, and disbursements.
  • Process and arrange payment of all firm’s employee and partner personal expense claims.
  • Manage the group’s credit card and virtual credit card programmes, including processing transactions and reconciling accounts.
  • Create and maintain all vendor records to comply with the firm’s risk management policies in this area.
  • Prepare the firm’s weekly supplier payment run via BACS.
  • Reconcile all vendor statements, investigate and rectify any anomalies identified during this process.
  • Upload all internal recharges (copying costs, travel costs, etc.) to the firm’s practice management system.
  • Accurately file all working documentation within various online Cashroom filing locations as directed.
  • Attend meetings and contribute to group discussions on Accounts Payable procedures, ensuring documentation is always kept up to date.
  • Assist with ad‑hoc departmental duties that may arise from time to time, including supporting other teams within the firm’s cashroom operations teams.
