We’re looking for a law graduate or legal paralegal to join our Smarter Working team as a junior legal technologist / innovation analyst. Previous direct experience in a similar role isn’t essential, but you should have a genuine interest in building a career in innovation and legal technology. You will have an interest in improving how legal work is carried out through understanding and improving processes and through smart, thoughtful use of technology. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving, takes a structured and organised approach to planning and delivering work, has a keen eye for detail and is comfortable working in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.

Our award winning Smarter Working team leads on innovation and legal technology at Shepherd and Wedderburn. The team supports improvements in legal service delivery and continuous improvement across our business.

  • Management and progression of legal innovation projects: Act as a liaison between practice group contacts and Smarter Working on the team’s portfolio of projects. Assist with scoping, defining, management, and testing projects through to completion.
  • Applications and tools: Act as a subject matter expert on key legal tech tools to support operational use, advise on the use cases for those tools, and keep up to date with functionality updates. Assist with the development of user-friendly guides and materials and help to deliver training. Review and track usage data and feedback for legal tech tools. Support the piloting and roll out of legal tech tools and products, including coordinating pilot programmes, testing, project management, and change management.
  • Process improvement: Assist with the firm’s process efficiency programme including organising, preparation for and attendance at project meetings, drafting and preparation of documents, process maps and toolkits.
  • General: Work to promote Smarter Working across the firm, support the roll out and uptake of Smarter Working products and services and to generate ideas and project requests. Encourage colleagues across the firm to adopt a mindset of continuous improvement and innovation.

Skills / Experience: You are a law graduate, or a legal paralegal with experience working in a law firm. While previous direct experience in a similar role is not essential you should have an interest in legal technology (including AI and emerging technologies) and its application to legal practice. You have a “can do” attitude to problem solving, are open to new ideas/approaches, and enjoy finding ways to improve processes. A desire to expand knowledge of legal practice and develop new technical skills. Accuracy, a methodical approach to work and a sharp eye for detail will be essential. You will have strong interpersonal skills and be comfortable communicating clearly both verbally and in writing. You must have good organisational and project management skills and an ability to work under pressure to strict timescales. Exposure to working with a busy team and dealing with conflicting priorities.
