Job Description

What you'll be doing
  • Training & Competence
    • Facilitate and delivering oil spill response and Shell Incident Management System (SIMS/ICS) training
    • Ensure SIMS roles are in place to lead oil and chemical spill Emergency Response (ER) activities and maintain own training and qualifications to serve in key Incident Command System (ICS) roles when required
    • Support development of regional spill response competency through succession planning, Emergency Response Specialists, Emergency Response Coordinators, and regional team members to ensure response competencies are developed and maintained
    • Develop personnel within the framework of the ICS to achieve and maintain a high degree of preparedness for oil and chemical spill ER. Coordinate ICS kill pool group based on expertise area
  • Exercising
    • Support delivery of Business and Regional spill exercises
  • Response
    • Respond to incidents as a core member of the regional team
    • Provide Shipping & Maritime Emergency Response coverage via cascade system
    • Provide technical guidance on vessel-related issues and potentially become Duty Response Coordinator within STASCo (Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited) Emergency Response Team (depending on previous experience)
    • Respond to Shipping & Maritime incidents as member of Incident Management Team
  • BU support
    • Support country and business response teams in developing and updating robust Oil and Chemical response plans. Identify equipment, facilities and personnel needed for oil and chemical spill ER
    • Conduct Spill Preparedness and Response 2nd Line of Assurance. Ensure that locations are fully prepared to respond to emergency situations and conduct reviews and assessments
    • Provide direct oil and chemical spill support and expertise to businesses as needed. Support gap closure and improvement following executed 2nd and 3rd Line Assurances
  • Stakeholder Management
    • Maintain and leverage key internal relationships and develop proactive engagement strategies. Ensure close collaboration with legal, communications, Global Emergency Management (Shell Emergency Management, Group Crisis Management), government relations, policy and advocacy, environmental, and subject matter expert support groups
    • Coordinate with regional 'All Hazards Network/Oil Spill Response Organizations and Global Emergency Management where requested to assure alignment in plans and response
    • Represent Shell in Industry committees and projects relating to regional initiatives
    • Support engagement with external stakeholders, where requested, to provide inputs in emerging legislation/regulation and protect Shell's interests
    • Monitor "best practices" and drive continuous improvement in oil and chemical spill Emergency Response
    • Provide oversight of contractors working on projects

What you bring

  • Bachelor's degree or higher and extensive experience in oil and chemical spill emergency response, science of oils spills and the environmental impacts of oil spills with recommended mitigations
  • Experience in field response with a focus on oil and chemical impacts to the environment
  • Capable of interfacing/coordinating with internal and external customers, stakeholders and government agencies
  • Experience in incident management
  • Experience building and developing an Incident Command System (ICS) organization and responding to incidents/exercises in ICS roles
  • Experience in conducting Tier 3 responses or exercises
  • Experience in building and developing organizational capability and competence in oil spill response management
  • Capable of interfacing/coordinating with wide variety of internal and external customers and stakeholders
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Experience in Adult Education would be considered an asset
  • Excellent engagement, leadership, organizational, influencing and communication skills and capabilities
