What’s the role
This is a great opportunity to join our operations team as our Energy Settlements Manager. Reporting into the Senior Operation Manager I&C, your primary responsibility will be to monitor and manage our industry settlement performance.
With responsibilities covering both electricity and gas performance you will ensure excellent Shell Energy UK (SEUK) and customer outcomes. With a detailed understanding of B2B settlement processes, you will demonstrate the ability to build and lead an established team, continually developing processes to support strong settlement performance.
The role supports our business’ aim to be seen in by providing market leading operational capabilities and supporting our wider customer goals of delivering a personalised service to customers and brokers. You will also focus on driving cost competitiveness through operational excellence and continual improvement in processes & systems.
You will get the opportunity to support the development of our Industry Operational capabilities working with colleagues across the wider SEUK to grow a critical part of our UK business.
What you’ll be doing
Your focus will be to deliver improvement, and create a proactive team achieving “best in class” performance levels in the following areas:
Performance:
- Ensure Shell deliver the Elexon Settlement Mandate for both HH and NHH meters.
- Owning the industry settlement of our Gas Product Class 3 & 4 portfolios ensuring we are meeting industry read targets.
- Highly developed interpersonal influencing skills to drive positive engagement with industry partners, third parties and customer service to optimise settlement performance and ensure the integrity of data systems.
- Responsible for energy imbalance performance negatively impacting energy reconciliation.
- Ensure team collaborate with cross-functional areas to address any settlement queries and issues promptly.
- Proactively manage third party suppliers and other industry parties to ensure portfolio data is as accurate as possible.
- Owning and leading SEUK settlement activity on the Market Wide Half Hourly Settlements programme (MWHHS), setting up the new processes where required.
- Ensure successful preparation and execution of industry audits e.g Elexon BSC audit.
Process:
- Optimise meter read validation for both Gas & NHH Electricity metering to maximise Industry Settlement Performance.
- Deliver industry leading HH metering performance by working closely with customers, MOPs, and DC’s
- Expert technical understanding of the gas settlement journey to proactively seek opportunities to plan, develop and implement operational best practise to support growth in portfolio in line with SEUK targets.
- Ensure team investigate and resolve settlement exceptions promptly.
- Develop accurate forecasts for settlement volumes.
- Work across operations team to minimise long term unread meters.
- Exhibit a good understanding of processes that will require monitoring and maintenance from a regulatory compliance perspective. (e.g. Ofgem, Elexon, xoserve).
- Adhere to group quality standards focused on creating operational excellence.
- Providing reporting and analysis on settlement performance for senior leadership.
- Consistently monitor Settlement portfolios, identifying trends and potential risks.
People:
- Drive a performance mindset through coaching & QA & regular 121s.
- Build the team’s knowledge to add value to business performance & support the individual’s development.
- Accountable for all aspects of people management of the Energy Settlements team.
- Drive Collaboration with colleagues across Operations and other functions like Sales, Commercial, Finance & IT.
What you bring
We are looking for candidates with significant experience managing teams within B2B Energy Settlements environment and the following:
- Robust and deep understanding with back-office operations in a B2B energy supplier context.
- Proficiency in handling supplier settlement performance.
- Expert depth of industry settlement knowledge for both Gas and Power.
- Proactive in identifying trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Comfortable with data analysis and forecasting.
- Subject Matter Expert knowledge of MWHHS and its impact on settlements would be beneficial.
- Experience in building strong working relationships with senior contacts at Industry Third Parties.
- Commercial awareness including analytical skills.
- An experienced manager with demonstrable experience of coaching & driving performance.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Naturally inquisitive & results driven, able to meet deadlines, strong organizational skills.
