The Market Data Integration Lead is a senior role within the Market Data & Trading Tools capability, responsible for driving the integration, adoption, optimisation, and operationalisation of market data across Shell Energy Trading. Reporting to the Head of Market Data & Trading Tools within the Chief Data Office (CDO), the role serves as the senior technical and business authority for market data integration, onboarding, consumption, and adoption across Front Office, Risk, Quants, Commercial Operations, Trading Technology, and ETRM platforms.
The role holder will partner with business and technology stakeholders to ensure market data is sourced, integrated, governed, distributed, and consumed effectively across the enterprise. This includes market data originating from trading and execution platforms such as Trayport and E-Star, alongside strategic market data providers including Bloomberg, Refinitiv/LSEG, ICE, S&P Global Platts, Argus, exchanges, brokers, and OTC market participants.
A key responsibility of the role is to continuously assess the market data landscape across Shell Energy Trading, identifying opportunities to simplify architecture, improve integration, increase data reuse, optimise market data spend, strengthen governance, and accelerate adoption of strategic market data capabilities.
The role requires deep technical expertise across market data technologies, APIs, real-time and end-of-day market data platforms, cloud-based data architectures, event-driven systems, market data engineering, automation, and downstream trading workflows. Success will be achieved through a combination of technical leadership, commercial understanding, stakeholder influence, and domain expertise.
Success in the role will be demonstrated through increased adoption of CDO-enabled market data platforms, improved integration consistency, faster onboarding of market data consumers, reduced operational risk, stronger transparency of ownership and lineage, improved data quality controls, and better utilisation of market data spend across Shell Energy Trading.
What you’ll be doing
- Market Data Strategy Execution & Capability Enablement: Partner with the Head of Market Data & Trading Tools to execute the market data strategy, roadmap, and operating model across Shell Energy Trading. Translate strategic priorities into scalable integration capabilities, adoption plans, standards, and measurable business outcomes across Front Office, Risk, Quants, Finance, Operations, Technology, and ETRM platforms.
- Market Data Landscape Optimisation: Assess the current market data landscape across trading, risk, analytics, and operational platforms to identify opportunities for simplification, rationalisation, reuse, cost optimisation, improved governance, and reduced duplication of sourcing and integration efforts. Evaluate emerging technologies, vendor solutions, and industry trends to inform future-state integration capabilities.
- Market Data Integration & Platform Adoption: Drive adoption of CDO-enabled market data platforms and services across Front Office, Risk, Quants, Finance, Operations, Technology, ETRM platforms, analytics environments, and downstream business applications. Establish standard onboarding and integration patterns to ensure market data consumers adopt strategic capabilities consistently, efficiently, and in line with enterprise architecture and governance standards.
- Trading Platform, Vendor & Market Data Service Integration: Lead technical onboarding and integration of market data from trading platforms, execution venues, vendors, exchanges, brokers, and OTC markets, including Trayport, E-Star, Bloomberg, Refinitiv/LSEG, ICE, CME, S&P Global Platts, Argus, Wood Mackenzie, and other strategic providers. Drive standard connectivity approaches using APIs, streaming services, SDKs, SFTP, vendor-native interfaces, and enterprise-approved integration patterns. Partner with Technology teams and vendors on evaluations, proof-of-concepts, technical due diligence, and onboarding activities.
- Technical Leadership & Engineering Standards: Act as the senior technical authority for market data integration technologies, engineering standards, reference architectures, and reusable integration frameworks. Promote API-first design, event-driven architecture, cloud-native patterns, automation, observability, resilience, and scalable support models across Azure, AWS, Databricks, Snowflake, Kafka, Solace, RMDS/TREP, and related technologies.
- Governance, Licensing & Operational Control: Partner with governance, compliance, audit, commercial, and technology stakeholders to strengthen market data governance, data quality, lineage, observability, licensing compliance, entitlement management, redistribution controls, and operational risk management. Improve transparency of market data ownership, usage, consumption, and lifecycle controls across Shell Energy Trading. Act as the recognised subject matter authority during material incidents involving market data feeds, partnering with vendors and internal teams to support resolution and service improvement.
- Stakeholder, Commercial & Knowledge Enablement: Build strong relationships with trading desks, Quants, Risk, Finance, Operations, Technology, Architecture, vendors, and governance teams. Lead through influence rather than line management, partnering with Technology teams, vendors, and a broader matrix of delivery and commercial stakeholders to execute against the strategy. Partner on subscription onboarding, commercial engagement, documentation, knowledge sharing, and adoption of enterprise market data capabilities. Direct the maintenance of documentation for data sources, integration patterns, data dictionaries, and operational runbooks within the CDO knowledge base to enable self-service adoption. Identify opportunities to optimise market data expenditure through consolidation, rationalisation, improved utilisation of strategic platforms and services, and reduction of redundant subscriptions.
