Overview

What’s The Role
Strategic Communications and Brand is an integrated team of communications, employee engagement, and brand professionals that combines compelling storytelling, creative content and data-led insights with media, campaign, and reputation strategy. The team is accountable for engaging our employees to drive performance delivery and for telling the story of Shell to the world; enabling the character and competence of our company to be seen and understood by priority audiences. We want them to understand our investment case, our culture, our values; to understand the things we believe, the decisions we make and the actions we take. As part of the Strategic Communications and Brand team, you’ll be responsible for supporting a single, core narrative for Shell. There will be a focus on integrating across teams, and ensuring we share a consistent story that we amplify across platforms and campaigns. This is an exciting time to join the team, as we test new opportunities, foster a learner mindset and proactively embrace new ways of working.

Editor/Speechwriter is an experienced senior writer and editor sitting in a cross-platform, multi-media Group Content team that produces creative ‘hero’ and day-to-day news-flow content for Shell’s corporate channel mix, campaigns and publications.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Reporting to the Head of Group Content, the Editor/Speechwriter writes and edits content capable of delivering maximum impact across a wide range of media.
  • The Editor/Speechwriter writes flagship speeches for Executive Committee (EC) members, aligning with the corporate narrative and maintaining a consistent tone of voice.
  • The Editor/Speechwriter will be assigned to various EC members – including potentially the CEO – to write other external, cross-platform content. They’ll be required to adapt their writing style to suit a variety of voices across different mediums.
  • The Editor/Speechwriter will be responsible for researching, planning and developing compelling content in support of our external corporate campaigns and communications, or editing content developed by colleagues. They’ll work closely with the wider Group Content, Campaigns, Financial, Business and Internal Communications teams, and with agency support when required.
  • The Editor/Speechwriter also helps develop the team’s capabilities, through mentorship of more junior colleagues and by supporting the delivery of internal courses to increase standards across the company.

What You Bring

  • Significant experience of writing and editing corporate and regulatory content, with a track record of high-quality, high-profile work often to tight deadlines.
  • Significant experience of speechwriting for senior leaders in a corporate or government setting.
  • Significant experience of working with senior stakeholders to research and distill complex topics into engaging, accurate content suitable for a variety of mediums and audiences.
  • Highly collaborative, with extremely strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Self-starter able to operate amid ambiguity, and to be front-footed and proactive.
  • Strong strategic-thinking skills and an ability to exercise sound judgement.
  • Courage to try new initiatives and ways of working, to enable Shell to deliver content that cuts through.
  • Demonstrate a learner mindset: role-model curiosity and reflection and encourage people to learn from their mistakes and successes.
  • Enable the best possible performance by collaborating and working across teams to achieve maximum commercial value for Shell as a whole.

What We Offer

  • You bring your skills and experience to Shell and in return you work with talented, committed people on one of the most important challenges facing our planet. You’ll be able to balance your priorities as you become the best version of yourself.
