The Senior Power Trader plays a key role in the EU Power and Certs Trading Desk, as a senior power trader across the CWE markets. The EU Power Trading team, part of Shell Energy Europe & Africa’s European Power Trading team, is responsible for proprietary trading and management of a growing portfolio comprising customer demand, renewable, batteries and thermal generation. The team manages exposures down the curve through to delivery.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Construct trading strategies, take positions and manage exposures from both traded strategies and across the asset portfolio based on analysis of fundamental, weather and technical market conditions across multiple markets.
- Ability to spot distortions between geographies, tenors, and generation type.
- Understand and communicate risks being taken.
- Support the development of the desk’s capabilities, portfolio and fundamental model.
- Work with external (and internal) customers alongside business development to bring in new structures to the book, or deal types to help optimise existing exposures.
- Stay on top of the latest regulatory and market developments.
- Observe and strictly comply with all regulatory guidelines, and within mandated authorities.
- Coach & educate junior colleagues.
What You Bring
- Significant years in power curve trading experience, with focus on the European Markets (especially Germany and Netherlands), with a proven track record.
- Established network with other market participants and industry players.
- Deep understanding of physical power markets, ideally with previous experience in managing assets (thermal and renewable).
- Strong grasp of market and weather fundamentals, and willingness to work with the fundamental team to drive model development.
