Islington Council is seeking an experienced Senior Social Worker to join their Child in Need / Child Protection Team. This is a frontline safeguarding role focused on supporting vulnerable children and families through effective assessment, planning, and intervention to achieve positive and sustainable outcomes.
You will manage a complex caseload, working closely with children, families, and partner agencies to reduce risk, promote stability, and ensure children receive the right support at the right time.
Working Pattern:
- 3 days per week in the office
- Hybrid working arrangement
In this role, you will:
- Manage a caseload of Child in Need and Child Protection cases
- Undertake assessments and develop outcome-focused plans
- Complete Section 47 enquiries and safeguarding investigations
- Undertake statutory visits and direct work with children and families
- Lead and participate in child protection conferences, core groups, and multi-agency meetings
- Progress cases through pre-proceedings and care proceedings where required
- Work collaboratively with schools, health professionals, police, and other partner agencies
- Support and mentor less experienced Social Workers within the team
- Prepare high-quality reports, assessments, and court documentation
- Maintain accurate and timely case recordings
What You’ll Need:
- Social Work England Registration
- Social Work Qualification
- At least 3 years’ post-qualified experience in children’s social care
- Strong Child in Need and Child Protection experience
- Experience managing complex safeguarding cases
- Court work and pre-proceedings experience desirable
- Ability to support and guide colleagues within a team environment
- Excellent assessment, analytical, and communication skills
