Herefordshire Council are recruiting a Team Manager into their Assessment and Support Service. This is an exciting leadership opportunity within a restorative and relationship-based authority focused on improving outcomes for children and families.
Our Assessment and Support service operates across three locality offices: South Locality (Ross-on-Wye), North Locality (Leominster), and Central Locality (Hereford). Each team includes a Team Manager, Senior Practitioner, Social Workers, and Family Support Workers, creating a collaborative and supportive environment.
Salary and incentives
- Salary up to £60,915
- £4,000 retention bonus
- £10,000 relocation package (subject to eligibility)
- £10,000 welcome bonus (paid in two increments)

Key responsibilities
- Leadership and supervision
- Lead and manage a team of Social Workers and Family Support Workers
- Provide reflective supervision, oversight, and performance management
- Ensure workloads are effectively allocated and managed
- Support staff development and promote high standards of practice
- Practice oversight
- Oversee Child and Family Assessments, safeguarding interventions, and care planning
- Ensure timely Section 17 and Section 47 enquiries
- Maintain strong oversight through audits, supervision, and quality assurance activity
- Chair strategy discussions, planning meetings, and complex case reviews
- Safeguarding and outcomes
- Drive timely interventions and child-centred planning
- Promote strong multi-agency working with partner agencies
- Ensure statutory requirements and performance indicators are met
- Support positive outcomes for children and families through effective decision-making
Requirements
- Social Work England registration
- Social Work qualification
- Current or recent Team Manager experience within UK Children’s Services
- Strong background in safeguarding and assessment services
- UK local authority experience
- Full UK driving licence
