We are looking to appoint 01 whole time Substantive Consultant (Medical or Clinical) Oncologist in Breast Cancer to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at Weston Park Cancer Centre, with outreach clinics within the SYBND cancer alliance. Job plan opportunities for a second cancer sub-site for those who want to maintain interest in other sub-specialities will also be supported considering service needs.

Main duties of the job

  • The appointee will, together with Consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of cancer services across the above mentioned disease sites.
  • The appointee will join established multidisciplinary teams for these cancers.
  • Successful candidates will be expected to participate in our acute oncology and on-call services rota which currently equates to 0.11 PA.
  • The successful candidate will work according to the terms and conditions of the national consultant contract.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate must be fully registered with the GMC with a valid licence to practice. You will also have completed Specialist Training (or equivalent) and be entered on the Specialist Register of the GMC, or have a CCT date within six months of the date of interview. Non-UK/EEA applicants should ensure they are aware of the recent changes to the Immigration rules.

Qualifications

  • Full and Specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
  • Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview.
  • If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
  • MRCP (or equivalent).
  • FRCR (or equivalent) – For Clinical Oncologist.

Research

  • Essential criteria: Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate.
  • Desirable criteria: Publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Clinical Experience

  • Essential criteria: Extensive training and broad experience in Medical or Clinical Oncology.
  • Previous experience in the management of the site-specific cancers applied for.
  • Awareness of new developments in the specialty with the ability to assess critically the impact of these on the service.
  • Ability to work as an independent practitioner.

Teaching and Training

  • Essential criteria: Experience of teaching student doctors and doctors in training at all levels.

Continuous Professional Development

  • Essential criteria: Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months of employment.
  • Desirable criteria: Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio.

Management and Administration

  • Essential criteria: Evidence of the understanding of the systems and structures of NHS Management.

Clinical governance and audit

  • Essential criteria: Experience in performing clinical audit.
  • Desirable criteria: Completion and publication of a substantive audit project or service improvement project.

Personal attributes

  • Essential criteria: Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values.
