About the Network

The South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw (SYB) Pathology Network is a fully integrated network providing pathology services across five regional sites:

  • Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (DBTHFT)
  • The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust (TRHFT)
  • Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust (SCFT)
  • Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (STHFT)
  • Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (BHFT)

We are inviting applications from enthusiastic, driven individuals to join our Chemistry teams at the Doncaster and Bassetlaw sites. The Chemistry site at Doncaster has a full track system, while Bassetlaw is a multidisciplinary lab.

Role and Responsibilities

The post holder will act as an HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist providing scientific services to patients as an aid to clinical diagnosis. Responsibilities include participating in a 24/7 shift rota, undertaking complex analytical procedures, and performing manual, semi-automated, and automated tests in line with ISO 15189 standards. The candidate will comment upon and validate results using scientific knowledge and experience.

Candidate Requirements

  • Post-registration Chemistry experience
  • Experience of working out of hours (desirable)
  • Possession of an IBMS specialist portfolio in Chemistry or Blood Sciences, or equivalent, for Band 6 appointment
  • Candidates working towards or aspiring to complete their specialist portfolio may be considered for Band 5

Please note: The vacancy banding depends on applicant experience; the starting band is typically Band 5 unless the applicant qualifies for Band 6.
