Sheffield Hallam University is seeking an exceptional leader to join us as Head of the Sheffield Institute of Education (SIoE). SIoE is a sector-leading, ambitious and inclusive institute, demonstrating the transformative power of education. It offers specialist undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in education, including expertise in childhood and autism.

Our courses combine applied learning, strong theoretical foundations and real-world experiences, delivered by expert academics with diverse specialist backgrounds. We offer undergraduate and postgraduate Teacher education routes across early years, primary, secondary, and further education and skills, with over 125 years of experience. We are also one of the UK’s largest Teacher education providers: at any one time, around 1,400 trainees are enrolled in our core provision, with a further 2,000 studying through our partnerships. This positions SIoE as a significant contributor to the regional and national Teacher workforce.

We collaborate with approximately 800 partner schools and settings and support around 1,400 mentors annually to deliver our partnership curriculum. Many of our graduates remain in the region, contributing to local education and continuing their professional development with us. Our Teacher education provision was graded Outstanding across all phases in March 2024.

For over 25 years, our Research, Evaluation and Knowledge Exchange team has delivered impactful educational innovation and evaluation at local, national and international levels. Our multidisciplinary expertise, spanning research including systematic review, RCT and QED approaches, analysis of secondary data, curriculum design, teacher education and CPD, ensures that research-informed practice is embedded across all aspects of SIoE.
