Overview
As a Machinist – Grinder, you will operate a cylindrical grinder to remove material to achieve the required diameter, finish, and roundness of steel rolls.
What you\’ll be doing
- Operating cylindrical grinding machines to meet required roll size, shape and finish quality.
- Deploying manual and CNC grinding techniques to achieve desired outcomes.
- Loading, setting and operating large lathes.
- Slinging and crane driving.
- Inspection and quality control of products.
- Machine maintenance.
Qualifications and experience
- Apprenticeship trained and/or relevant experience in a similar position.
- Experienced in cylindrical grinding and lathe turning.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings.
- Previous experience of crane driving and slinging.

About the role and site
At Sheffield Forgemasters we have an exciting opportunity for a Machinist – Grinder to join our Work Rolls function. This role is based at our 64-acre site, sitting in the heart of Sheffield. Our Work Rolls department produces forged steel rolls in our custom-built steel processing facility, that is among the most advanced, dedicated forged roll plants in the world. This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week with shifts as described below.
- Morning Shift: 06:00-14:30 Mon-Thu, 06:00-12:00 Fri
- Night Shift: 20:00-06:00 Mon-Thu
