Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the wider communications, public health and air quality teams as well as executive directors and senior managers.
  • Engage with communities to develop communications campaigns and provide high-quality communications for the Council to a range of stakeholder audiences.
  • Plan and lead engagement events such as focus groups, community events, communications plans and video content for social media.
  • Advise senior officers and elected Members on air quality and the communication strategy.
  • Communicate confidently with communities and stakeholders, remaining calm under pressure.

Qualifications

  • Experienced communications and engagement professional.
  • Strong judgement and skills to develop and deliver innovative campaigns telling compelling stories and driving meaningful behaviour change.
  • Ability to plan and lead engagement events within a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Adaptable, resilient and able to work with a range of stakeholders.

  • Full-time employees work 37 hours per week for 52 weeks of the year with a generous holiday entitlement.
  • Flexible working opportunities including reduced-hour contracts, part-time or job share arrangements.
  • Starting salary at the bottom of the grade, with potential to start higher if evidence of higher basic pay is provided.
  • Equality of pay is extremely important, with all roles entering an evaluation process that may change pay arrangements from 2026.
