Sheffield Town Hall, one of the city’s five Grade I listed buildings, is undergoing a major refurbishment programme to secure its long‑term future as a civic, cultural and democratic landmark. The project will create a more sustainable, accessible and welcoming ‘Town Hall for All’, providing high-quality civic, community, office and event spaces while protecting the building’s historic character.
We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join our growing Facilities Management team and support this exciting transformation. The project is helping modernise the FM service, moving towards a smarter, planned and data‑led approach to asset management, while creating opportunities to develop new skills, capture knowledge from experienced colleagues, and shape how the refurbished Town Hall will operate in the future.
About the Role
You will be part of the Town Hall team, supporting the delivery of the refurbishment project, working closely with the client team, services across Sheffield City Council and the wider Facilities Management service. You will help coordinate project activities, from supporting the integration of FM and operational requirements into the design process to delivering engagement activities, contributing to the successful handover of the refurbished building. This is an opportunity to be a part of and shape the refurbishment of one of Sheffield’s most significant civic projects, while helping shape a modern, future‑focused Facilities Management function. The initial 18‑month fixed‑term contract aligns with RIBA Stage 2 (Concept Design) of the project, and you will be based in the Town Hall Project Office.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of the Sheffield Town Hall refurbishment project on behalf of the client and FM team.
- Coordinate project activities, meetings, actions and project documentation, working with consultants, contractors and stakeholders to support communication and project delivery.
- Support the integration of FM and operational requirements into the building design.
- Review plans and technical information to help ensure the building is practical, efficient and easy to maintain.
- Monitor project progress, risks and actions, escalating issues where required.
- Support the capture of operational knowledge from existing FM staff.
- Build positive working relationships with colleagues, contractors and project partners.
About You
You will be an organised and proactive project professional, able to work collaboratively across a complex refurbishment project and support successful operational outcomes. You will be confident working with a range of stakeholders and balancing competing priorities. You will have:
- Experience supporting projects within construction, facilities management, property or a related environment.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to maintain accurate project information.
- Experience coordinating meetings, reports and project documentation.
- Good communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- An understanding of facilities management, building operations or asset management principles.
- The ability to identify issues, support problem solving and contribute to effective project delivery.
- Confidence using digital systems and Microsoft Office applications.
You will be keen to develop your experience within a high‑profile refurbishment project while contributing to the future development of the Facilities Management service at Sheffield Town Hall. A relevant qualification in project management, facilities management, construction, property or a related discipline is desirable, or equivalent professional experience.

Full‑time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
